Browser Related Help
What is a browser, what is a version? The program you are using to look at this web page is called a "web browser". The version refers the number assigned to software that will help identify when it was released, what features it will have, and whether or not there is a more recent copy of the program available for you to use.
How do I find out what my browser version is? To find out, simply do the following: Move your mouse up to the top of this window and point it over the word "Help" so that the Help Menu drops down. Select the last option which should read "About Internet Explorer..." or "About Netscape...". Or just hit the ALT key once, then the letter "H", and then the letter "A". A window should pop up that will confirm the exact version number of your web browser. If you have a version 3.x of IE or Netscape, then we are sorry to inform you that you will require a browser upgrade in order to register and play The Stone. Below, we have more specific information to assist you in upgrading. If you see something other than Internet Explorer or Netscape, such as "About AOL", then the following information will be of great assistance. What if I'm using an AOL browser? This will likely mean that you have the AOL software package installed and are used to using the built in browser. You most likely already have a cobranded version of either Netscape or Internet Explorer already installed onto your computer. If you have any trouble locating or launching your IE or Netscape browser, we recommend you contact AOL Tech Support for assistance. Once you have found your Internet Explorer or Netscape program, all you need to do is connect to the Internet as you normally would. After you are connected then open up your web browser. Then you can leave AOL running in the background while you surf the web using Internet Explorer or Netscape. What if I am using another browser aside from these? For the time being you will need to convert to the established browsers in order to play The Stone. Keep reading though...
Where can I get a 4.x or higher version of Netscape or Internet Explorer? You can download it from the web. You can install it off of a CD Rom (almost any free CD Rom you get from Gaming Magazines or Internet Service Providers will have one or both browsers). Or you can contact your Internet Service Provider for further assistance. These browsers are absolutely free. To install them you simply need to click on the program file you have received and follow instructions (these will be self extracting files).
How do I download Internet Explorer? Be careful with this. Internet Explorer 5.0 is a very good program, but it is a very big program best served with at least Windows 98 or Mac OS 8.0 and plenty of free hard drive space. If you are using an older computer, telephone modem, or just want to get into the game as fast as possible (via a download) we would suggest you opt for Netscape.
How do I download Netscape? If you are unsure as to your computers ability to handle the latest Netscape suite, there is a stand alone version of Netscape Navigator 4.08 at this location (for now): The stand alone is just the browser by itself. Otherwise, click here for Netscape 4.7 which has many more helpful features, such as email and html editing capacity. Note: The Smart Download program can be confusing. It is a good idea to use it though. If you wish to save time, however, choose 'Download without Smart Download'.
