Cannabis Edibles vs Flower: Busting Myths

Marijuana is something many people are not well informed about. It can be taken in various ways, including ingesting it orally to using a vaporizer. Vaporizing is heating your herb to around 400 degrees, which releases the active ingredients into vapor form that you inhale into your lungs, similar to smoking but without all the carcinogens created from burning the plant matter.

Herb comes in many forms, including oils, waxes, tinctures, and edibles. When it is available in pill form, meaning no smokeable “flower” counterpart is present, people often do not recognize this as weed. This is because Medical Marijuana was given a bad name by all the stoners who would rather search for cheap pot in flower form instead of going to a dispensary and spending more money on pot that is available as a legal pill.

Although it does come in pill form, ganja only comes in two ways: edibles or smoking/vaporizing. The confusion behind medical pot has led to many myths due to people’s lack of knowledge. In this article, I will be busting those common myths about Medical Marijuana so you know what it entails!

We will start with one of the most common myths which commonly makes its way around school campuses nationwide:

Medical cannabis refers to smoking weed

This is a myth because it does not only refer to weed in its smokeable form. Medical marijuana refers to cannabis that includes any other conditions such as but is not limited to edibles and vaporizers. The other common myth we will be busting:

Edible weed has no health benefits. It’s just for people who want to get high.

It uses the same compound called THC, which is short for Tetrahydrocannabinol. It can have a high concentration of TCH, ranging from 20%-60%. That’s higher than your average street weed! It has been scientifically proven to help patients who suffer from many different conditions. This includes cancer, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and many more. It also helps relieve pain in patients with arthritis and other chronic illnesses. It doesn’t only help you get high, it gives health benefits, unlike street weed.

Edible vs. Flower: Which is Better?

They are becoming more and more popular nowadays due to their convenience because they can be discreetly consumed and have a longer-lasting effect than smoking.

Now here is what you’ve all been waiting for, the difference between weed in its smokeable form, aka flowers, and its edible form!

When it comes to flowers have a much lower concentration of TCH when compared to edibles.

This means that you will need more (a lot more) to feel the effects which can lead to patients losing money because patients end up wasting their weed on nothingness. Although studies show that there is no difference between how each affects the body aside from the dosage required, we find that it takes an enormous amount of pot flower or “buds” (the green plant matter) to experience the relief that is provided by only a small dosage of an edible.

This has become such a massive problem that states like Colorado, Washington, and California have put limits on the number of cannabis patients can purchase per day because usually, once they run out, patients end up spending tons more money at dispensaries due to running low on their medication.

Before you go off buying yourself a pack of blunts to avoid eating weed

I’ll let you know one significant difference between a smoking flower and eating an edible. When smoked or vaporized, TCH goes directly into your lungs and then onto your brain, giving rapid relief compared to eating it, where it first travels through your digestive tract, which takes much longer for the medication to take effect. Since it takes so long for an edible to take effect, patients have found out that if they eat about 20 minutes after burning, their body already feels the results of the medication, which makes it a great combination!

Although many people think I am wrong because you can get “super-high” from eating weed, there are limits set by states on how much THC is allowed in one serving. This has caused dispensaries across America to label all edible products with dosage amounts and other important information such as ingredients. Now, I’m not telling you this to make you feel bad but rather to make sure you know what potency you are getting you because trust me when I say this, the last thing you need is to end up in an emergency room due to taking too much THC.

Before letting you go off into this world of Edibles vs. Flower

I want to make sure you know that inhaling weed can be bad for you! Many studies show that inhaling anything on fire has many adverse health effects ranging from cancer to early death and even brain damage (crazy, right?). When it comes down to it, although burning may give quick relief, cannabis-infused snacks are becoming the future of marijuana treatment with their non-invasive nature on your lungs and whole body. Although all these claims are just speculation until doctors have conducted studies on the long-term effects on patients, I think having a healthy lifestyle should always be prioritized!

So what’s better, Edibles or Flower?

In my personal opinion, neither! I think it is crucial to have a healthy body and mind, so as long as you are aware of your limits on either edibles or flowers, then there is absolutely no difference between the two. If you’re anything like me, you know that sometimes smoking can be a massive pain due to its unreliability. If this happens, I recommend eating an edible to make sure that your experience will be a pleasant one! Although flower has been around for many years, the dawn of edibles opens up new opportunities for patients across America, which has helped countless people already, from cancer patients to those looking for alternative medicines.

Is Eating it Safer Than Smoking

When we think of eating Cannabis, many people believe in eating the plant. This is possible, but you will not get the same results as eating the products manufactured from it.

Edible Products

The products made from the marijuana plant are called Edibles. For product enjoyment, the plant goes through a process called decarboxylation. The raw plant contains THCA-tetrahydrocannabinolic acid compounds and CBDA- cannabidiolic acid. On exposing the plant to the heating process of decarboxylation, the active compounds of THC and CBD; are released.

The concentrates made from heated weed make weed-infused snacks for people to consume. They can be gummies, suckers, brownies, oils, and tinctures. These products may contain THC or only CBD, depending on their uses to benefit consumers.

THC content in products are for recreational users, while; CBD content edibles are for medical relief.

Because of the THC compound that causes psychoactive feeling when used, is responsible for the euphoric, mellow, and sometimes erratic behavior. The use of this compound must be under conditions that are regulated. If you are using it recreationally for the first time, you should go slow and carefully. It is used for health purposes.

People who buy it for medical use will have a license and are prescribed mainly by their doctor. They treat chronic pain, nausea, anxiety, stress, sleep aids, and appetite loss. These CBD products do not contain intoxicating properties. Your doctor’s prescription is what you should follow, and the Cannabis dispensary you buy them will indicate to you how to consume them based on the percentage of CBD in the product.

Smoking

There is not much literature on studies of the effects of smoking weed. But the available research does show that smoking and inhaling the smoke from cannabis can be harmful to the lungs. There is no direct correlation between smoking and some cancers, although there is research that intimate this possibility. Like any smoking and inhalation of the smoke may cause health issues over time, especially lungs. Consuming them is considered safer than smoking the plant to alleviate this concern.

To get the full benefit, you need to understand the strengths and the effects on your body after consumption. On smoking, you will feel the effects almost immediately. Consuming edibles, the results are felt between 30- 60 minutes after consumption. This is what many people do not fully understand.

So, they consume more, believing they have not ingested enough, which can cause an overdose.

Dispensary you buy legally should tell you how much of a gummy to eat on your first go. Drinking the Cannabis infused drink also depends on the amount of CBD it contains; brownies are the same, even suckers.

Should you decide to smoke weed, buying from a dispensary is the way. Some illegal sellers can have products laced with very harmful pesticides if ingested. And this is where the danger lies. By buying from registered and licensed Dispensaries, you are sure their products are certified by laboratory testing and sold with the approved amounts of THC and CBD the products.

Although we at The Stone have given you a lot to take in, all I want you to do is be aware of your options and find out what works best for you as a medical cannabis patient. All I ask is that you keep an open mind and don’t be afraid to try anything new! It was made illegal due to claims that it has no medical value.

Yet, states are now legalizing Edibles across the country

This tells me that people are finally starting to wake up and realize how important this plant is to us! If they didn’t believe marijuana helped them, they wouldn’t fight so hard for medicinal use, making these recent decisions completely hypocritical! So keep your head high, and always wash your bud before smoking it, knowing that you are doing nothing wrong!

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you always stay safe and responsible. Marijuana is not for everyone, but I can tell you that plenty of people out there will benefit from its medicinal properties! Although it might be difficult at first to find someone willing to buy marijuana off you, once it becomes legal in your state, then the market will explode overnight, causing prices to go down rapidly, allowing many more people access to marijuana making this all worthwhile right? Until next time my friends… Stay high! And remember, YOU GOT THIS!!
