Wheat Ridge

Wheat Ridge City is the gem inside the Greater Colorado communities. West Ridge is bordered by Arvada, Lakeside, Denver, Edgewater, Lakewood, Applewood, Fairmont, and Mountain View. Geographically north, east, southeast, south, southwest, and northwest. Although Wheat Ridge is relatively new, it existed as an agricultural town; and a rest stop during the Gold Rush era of the 1950s. Travelers would utilize the services the Town had to offer on their way to hopes of riches. 

As one of the Home Rule Municipalities in Jefferson County, Colorado, United States, Wheat Ridge grew from a rest stop Town to a developed commercial, housing, and utility services. Eventually, due to the increasing annexation pressure from nearby municipalities, Wheat Ridge, Colorado was incorporated in 1969.

The Wheat Ridge of today offers a glimpse of what it was like in the past. You can visit exhibitions and learn about the rich heritage of the place. There are tours of preserved buildings and viewings of artifacts that the citizens of Wheat Ridge do not forget the history of how Wheat Ridge began and came to be. 

The Wheat Ridge Historical Society, founded in 1974; after the citizens were given the mandate to preserve The Soddy, and was successful in this endeavor. The citizens come together during August and September to commemorate the birth of their beloved City. On August 14th, they celebrate Heritage Day, where citizens have the Vintage Quilt Show and enjoy the Ice Cream Social. It is also commemorated with live music, sing-alongs, and delicious snacks to enjoy. 

On September 11th every year, there is the Great Food Produce Exchange, where community members share their bounty from their gardens. There is also an exchange of recipes, crafts, skills, and lots of food and socializing. The family atmosphere makes you want to be a part of the warmth that is Wheat Ridge, all year round. Should you be a visitor to this City, after these wonderful experiences, you may not want to leave.
